Getting your paperwork ready for a VA cash-out refinance

Step 2: income documents

Prep note

Unlike an IRRRL, a VA cash-out refinance requires full income verification. Wage earners usually provide pay stubs and W-2s; self-employed borrowers provide personal and business tax returns; retirees provide award letters and benefit statements; active duty borrowers provide a recent Leave and Earnings Statement. Lenders also review credit and residual income.
